I recently came across this issue in my lab after upgrading my vCenter Server from version 4.1 to version 5 and figured I’d blog about it. In this case I have a couple of hosts with configuration issues shown in the screenshot below.

Deciding When to Virtualize Tier-One Applications
Virtualization may be the best direction to go for your company, but like any good thing, there are always exceptions. Whether or not to virtualize tier-one applications is a question every company must carefully review. Virtualizing IO or throughput-intensive SQL database servers that support tier-one applications is no cake walk, especially those that focus on real-time data. This is not to say it cannot be done, but rather it’s a question of practicality.

If you plan on upgrading to vSphere 5 you probably already know about VMware’s new vRAM licensing. VMware has finally released a tool aimed at helping customers see how the upgrade and new licensing model would really affect them.
vSphere 5 and Storage DRS
One of the most important and well received features of the new vSphere 5 release, Storage DRS, automates I/O and storage capacity management, while making VM provisioning much easier. Though admins need to continue to manage storage tiers and provision enough performance capacity in each datastore cluster, this new feature is a significant step forward. Refinements to the vRAM licensing model
The customers voice has been heard and VMware has made refinements to the new vRAM licensing model for soon to be released vSphere 5. I am glad to see that VMware has at the very least taking to time and effort at trying to be as far as possible to the customer.
