My intention for this application was to make my life easier by collecting licensing information during the recent and future times of renewals. Not to mention just keeping track of what license keys are out there because you might find duplicates. I haven’t really seen anything in the wild that will do this in the same way that the tool does today. The easiest way for me before would have been scripting it with the vSphere PowerCLI but that required a windows server or desktop. Or I could have logged into each vCenter server to get the information but with so many in the environment, this would not be efficient use of my time. The VI Java API comes as a replacement to the vSphere PowerCLI for me using a Mac. Scripts are great but I created this tool with a GUI and decided to share it. It’s not complete so with time I intend to improve the tool and add more features. I already have some ideas on what to do next with it. You’ll notice it doesn’t just collect licensing information either. Hopefully others will find it useful.
I also decided to put on it’s own site. Check it out here.
